Vegan Restaurant Opening at TWU Denton
Yes, we are still in the claws of the pandemic, there’s a labor shortage and tremendous economic uncertainty for some.
Restaurants and businesses are closing left and right and the clock has run out for SBA EIDL funding for most.
I guess you are wondering, “Where’s the good news?”
Soulgood is launching its 100 percent vegan brick and mortar quick service restaurant on the Texas Woman’s University campus in Denton on January 18, 2022.
Soulgood launched as a pop up restaurant on Halloween in 2014. The founder, vegan celebrity chef, Cynthia Nevels, started creating ”guess what” meals for her children in 2012 as a way to improve the quality of life for her son who was born with Cystic Fibrosis and who was in need of a double organ transplant. The company has gone from $100 total weekend sales to a six figure business with contracts with Dallas ISD, AT&T Stadium, University of Texas at Arlington and SMU.
The journey has been a labor of love for Chef Cynthia and now she’s opening the flagship at her alma mater in Denton, Texas with plans to open three additional sites.
Chef Cynthia (@chefcynthiaeats), who has catered for Stella McCartney, Billie Eilish and Michael Finley to name a few, graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 1996 and built a successful career in high tech and business management consulting in Silicon Valley and Dallas over the last 20 years. Becoming an advocate for food equality, the environment, healthcare and animal rights was never written in her high school yearbook.
Chef Cynthia is no stranger to adversity and insurmountable challenges. She was a divorced single mother of 3 caring for a terminally ill child when she launched her first successful statewide nonprofit academy that was recognized by then Governor Rick Perry back in 2000 following the dotcom bust. Launching a new plant-based QSR in the middle of a pandemic seems well risky.
“I’m not doing this alone. Soulgood is partnering with a global foodservices company, Compass Group, with over $8 billion in revenue and contracts with universities all over the country,” said Chef Cynthia Founder and Head Creative Chef of Soulgood.
The Soulgood location in Denton will be located at 1201 Oakland Street Denton, TX 75062 and open Monday - Saturday serving all day vegan breakfast and lunch from 7:30am - 3:00pm.
Soulgood will continue to offer exclusive vegan catering services, food truck, baked goods and curbside services in Dallas and now in Denton County.
The Soulgood mission is and always will be to save the planet, people and animals one plate at a time. We now have the opportunity to scale and have more of an impact by opening our flagship brick and mortar location in partnership with Chartwells Higher Education, a division of Compass Group, in Texas. Now when patrons buy from Soulgood, we can donate more to our Soulgood Cares Foundation and invest more into the people in the communities that need help the most.
“The truth is with every bite at Soulgood you are doing something good,” says Chef Cynthia.
